Tonsillectomy

Removing the tonsils is considered for frequent, documented tonsillitis that meets clinical criteria, or for selected problems such as obstruction or a quinsy. A few sore throats do not automatically mean an operation.
Pain after surgery is expected and can last more than a week. Bleeding, including delayed bleeding, is an important risk and a reason for clear after-care instructions.
In children, the conversation often includes the adenoids and sleep breathing. The family should hear the benefits, the recovery, and the option of continued medical care.
General information. Suitability, risks and alternatives are explained by the treating clinician before any procedure. Nothing here is a recommendation for you personally.
